"Evaluations are about achieving improvement in performance by identifying opportunity and potential, and carrying out renewal. When conducted with sensitivity and focused on meaningful improvement, even difficult messages can be delivered tactfully, accepted graciously and dealt with effectively."
Australian Institute of Company Directors, 2011
Exceptional outcomes can be expected from a Board that is genuine about improving their own performance as a decision making and leadership body. When the Board is clear about their own job and is aware that making decisions can be subject to a quality system - the effects are impressive:
Board Evaluations are becoming an increasingly prominent factor in corporate operation. With the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority now making governance reviews an annual requirement for the financial sector, and other sectors following suit as a best practice, it is imperative that all company Boards undertake an evaluation process to ensure their organisation is functioning as efficiently and effectively as possible.
RADNO has delivered a wide range of governance projects, conducting evaluations for organisations varying from superannuation funds to not-for-profits. Each project is uniquely tailored to the needs of the client and takes into account the previous work that each organisation has already conducted on governance processes and procedures.
Board Evaluations take many different forms depending on the needs and characteristics of the client. RADNO takes an outcome based approach when formulating the parameters for a governance review, we choose to look at the purpose and goals of the evaluation and then build a framework around this. We offer an extensive range of methodology when conducting a Board Evaluation, including Full Peer Reviews, Chair Evaluations, Peer Assessments, Self Assessments, Board Assessments, One-on-One Interviews and more. Whatever your organisation's need, we will tailor the evaluation ensuring it is fit-for-purpose and achieves the desires outcomes.
A Board Evaluation is only as effective as the discussion that follows it. The actual survey or review merely provides an opportunity to extract information and analyse data; what it vital is the learning and recommendations that arise from discussion about the evaluation findings.

A Board Evaluation is a great place to start the process of Governance Review; gaining a greater understanding into how your organisation works and ascertaining key data about board size, structure and dynamics
This is an on-line Self-Evaluation hosted by RADNO which operates as a review of Board activities, deliberations and outcomes. The process is tailored specifically to the needs of your organisation and utilises our extensive governance research to ask detailed, specific questions about your existing governance model. RADNO will then analyse the findings and evaluate these, providing a report of the Board's effectiveness and compliance in comparison with standard governance expectations.
A Board Evaluation can be the initial step in a longer process of detailed governance evaluation or a recurring practice in your organisation's self-assessment. Be you a not-for-profit, large, small or medium sized organisation; no matter your area of operation, RADNO will design the evaluation process to suit your needs.
Board Evaluations commence at $950.00 GST inclusive.
Governance Audits commence at $7,500 for a not-for-profit organisation.
We conduct Governance and leadership workshops designed to demonstrate to Boards and Committees systems to ensure inputs from diverse groups, how to manage the external environment and monitor & measure outcomes. All of the groups that we work with have diverse groups represented. Good governance principles ensure acknowledgement of diverse opinions whilst ensuring commitment to group values through sound facilitation and leadership skills.
Our experience in delivering & facilitating outcomes is extensive and includes:
We have been engaged by a number of Boards to provide chairperson coaching and mentoring. This coaching is designed to provide the framework for encouraging input from all whist reaching a shared agreed outcome. An essential leadership skill is the ability to open debate and subsequently reach a final agreed position that represents the shared values of the group. We have been invited to attend two or three Board Meetings to evaluate the conduct of the meeting including the chairing of the process and we generally provide 90 minutes of coaching and debriefing both before and after each Board Meeting.
A Governance model is a means to an end. It should enable good decision making and the implementation of these decisions for desirable outcomes for the organisation. A good governance system acknowledges that:
The Board is answerable to its ownership and must, as a body:
The unique and continuing contribution of the board - is to establish and maintain governing policies and procedures that articulate the:
A comprehensive examination of the existing governance model and the optimum governance model is a three stage process that requires discussion with the leadership of the organisation, review of the existing governance structure and recommendations on optimum models of governance. RADNO can also draft and complete a Governance Manual that includes all of the governance policies and procedures for the Board.
